The Storms that Stop Us

Rain and snow made it hard to see in front of me…it delayed my progress.

How do you handle the storms that come up in your life?

This is a semi-continuation of the last post about the dreaded warning light.

We were planning to head home Monday night after swimming in the homestead crater. (Which is super cool, I highly recommend it!). My husband took the kids in his car so they could get back earlier and ready for school the next day.

I went back to the villa to get the food and checkout.

Then I got the phone call.

The rain that had turned to snow was coming down hard in the canyon making it hard to see the lines. He asked me not to drive home, but to come in the morning.

PLOT TWIST!! <— That’s what I like to say when my story takes a detour from what I planned.

I cleaned up and got ready to leave in the morning.

When I got up today, I learned that it was to be snowing most of the day, and that I had 2 of my kids backpacks, laptops, and shoes for school.

PLOT TWIST!!

My sleep was less than I planned and I got home as quick as I could and got the kids to school.

On a side note…

When my kids got up the power was out. Also at the elementary school, but they were going on as usual. Not a big deal, but harder if you don’t have your warm shoes and class is in a portable.

I am so grateful for the resiliency training my kids have had through our life experiences. (and Grandma support!) It all went together smoothly and everyone got what they needed.

As I drove home, It was light snow, to heavier rain/snow in the canyon. There were times the window got foggier and it was harder to see. As I drove through the storm, I came out on the other side to clear skies and dry roads.

So many times in life we have our plans and things are going smoothly… then an unexpected storm rolls in…

Do you FIGHT? get mad? angry? annoyed?

Do you FLEE (Flight)? try to get away and avoid it at all costs? run the other direction?

Do you FREEZE? not do anything? stop moving forward? question all you have known and done?

…. I heard the 4th one once… I can’t recall what it was at this moment, so please leave it in the comments if you know 🙂

There is another option… it’s one many people have found beneficial (not just me). It is a powerful one.

Do you choose to go FORWARD into the storm with FAITH that each step of the way you will be protected and provided for?

That’s what I did.

My hubby said stay there. I chose FAITH that everything would be okay. That my family would get home safe and to school safe the next day.

I called my mom to help with the kids in the morning. (Asking for the support we need as we move forward in the storms is often a challenge for many people. I promise it’s a skill worth practicing.

When I saw it was supposed to rain/snow all day, I said a prayer and asked if it was better for me to go now, or wait a couple hours. I took action on that one simple step and trusted everything would work out.

It wasn’t super smooth, and in some places, it was hard to see. However, as I went forward in Faith believing I’d get through without any issues, I emerged from the storm into peace and beauty.

So I ask you…

What are the storms that are raging in your life right now?

Are they big raging storms? or little cloudbursts?

How are you navigating them? Are you paralyzed? Moving forward in faith?

Wherever you are… it’s just perfect!

Take a breath and know that you are in exactly the right place to make the next right decision that will move you forward in your life.

  1. Wonderful post Livia! The fourth is FLOP. It’s the collapse a possum does when it sees no way out. I also like “Plot Twist.” A beautiful time to trust Jesus and wait for His next steps forward.

    1. Thank you for your insights. I don’t think I had heard “flop” before… it was something else. Definitely relevant to what many do experience in life.
