Today I’m going to tell you a little story…
It’s a story of my search for the van I wanted to buy… how I did it all wrong and ended in lots of frustration… then how I did it right and received all I desired and more in the easiest and most joyful way ever!
It was 2013, I believe… (if I find I’m off, I’ll update this)
I had 5 young kids and we were homeschooling. I had a minivan that fit our family of 7, but my desire was to have a 15 passenger van that would allow me to take neighbors, friends, and family on our adventures with us.
I had recently been learning about the power of our minds and how important it is to be intentional about what we are creating and experiencing, rather than just taking what comes like we can’t do anything about it.
So, I decided to believe it was possible that I could find a van that I wanted and it would be within my budget (under $6000)
I believe wholeheartedly that all the mindset work is really just the human way of explaining God’s principle of “ask and ye shall receive” and the power of creation that resides in all of us.
I wanted a 15 passenger van that was bi-fuel (runs on regular gas & natural gas).
I scoured the classified ads and marketplaces, picked a day and drove an hour to SLC with 5 kids to find our van. It was the middle of summer and HOT!!!
By the end of the day, we had looked at 5 or so vans all across the valley. Kids were hungry, tired, hot, and grumpy. I was feeling defeated and like I was crazy for attempting such a feat.
I have a clear visual in my mind…
We had just gotten home, I turned on an educational show for the kids and let them all sit on the couch and relax. I sat in my black leather office chair by the desk in the family room and leaned back. I took some deep breaths and contemplated the day and apologized to my kids for taking them all over and being grumpy.
We looked at vans that were exactly what I had asked for: 15 passengers, bi-fuel.
But the exterior was damaged… the interior was dirty/broken.. or they smelled like smoke…. was I crazy to think I could actually get what I wanted with the limited funds I had available?
Then I had a spark of remembrance — of course I didn’t get what I wanted. I got what I asked for!
I decided to slow down and take a few moments to really CREATE and ASK for what I wanted.
I opened a new document on my computer and started a list… 12-15 passengers… good condition inside and out… milage… mechanically good condition… rear a/c separate… cd player… etc…
The list had about 14 things on it. ( I have a photo of it too that I’ll share when I find it)
I took a deep breath and prayed “this is what I want, what do I do?”
A thought! Ask on Facebook.
one very vague post
I posted in some community groups something like “I’m looking for a 15-passenger van, does anyone know someone who is selling one?”
Within a few minutes I got a message from someone I didn’t know. Something about “we had a van like that growing up, I think my dad may want to sell it!” She gave me his number and I called him.
Yes!
He did have a van and would like to sell it, but it wasn’t listed. He asked how much I was looking to pay and it sounded promising. I arranged to go see it the next day with my family (we all had to love it).
The next day after work, we drove the 45minutes to go see the van. We heard all about how it was used as their family grew, for vacations, scouting trips, and youth activities, but had mostly just sat there the last few years.
We looked It over well. As I looked I realize there were a few small cosmetic things and I didn’t want to pay what I had said on the phone. I went through all the emotions of “how can I say a lower price when I said something else on the phone” (I’ve grown so much since then, now, it wouldn’t be an issue)
I was working on my courage and what to say.
As I walked around the van to meet the seller and my husband, he said, “now that I’m looking at it, it’s not in as good of shape as I thought, how about $xxx?”
WOW! That was awesome!
I didn’t have to say anything. I just looked to God in awe of how things work out easily and create a win-win for everyone.
We decided to buy it.
so many little miracles to this point…
and it gets better!
It was totally a God thing!
To sweeten the deal, and for me to know 100% that this was not my doing, but a gift from my loving Father in Heaven…
- He had his mechanic check it all out before we bought it
- He got it all registerd in our name for us
- It came the a DC adapter with extenders to the back for long trips
- There was a Custom hitch with 3 receivers and a heavy duty rack included
- He drove it to me and delivered it while I was in a conference on lunch break!
Oh, so many miracles. God is good.
All things are possible!
There are laws of the universe that govern creation and success. Sometimes we align with them unconsciously and great things happen. People with bad intent can use them without knowing it and it can look like they are ‘blessed’ for doing evil, when in fact, they are just super clear on their evil intention.
Good News!
learning to really get clear on what you want it the first law and the others are equally important to your success in life, love, relationships, and finances!
When you learn these laws, understand them, and live by them… you can intentionally co-create amazing things!
The first of these laws is to be really clear on what you want! (like ordering at a restaurant – “sandwich” could get you many things, but “toasted pastrami on rye with pickles” is way more specific and you are more likely to receive what you desire.)
