Insights into the heart of a mother and her perception of motherhood
This question came up in my Facebook feed and I had some things to say …
The question sounded like this “What do you think a mother actually does? What is the purpose of a mother? If you stripped it all down, what does being a successful mom look like?
It can be easy to think of all the tasks and duties a mother performs:
- change diapers
- make meals
- clean house
- read books
- comfort
- guide
- teach
- buy clothes
- drive kids places
- and so much more…
This is how I see mothers:
- Motherhood is the most sacred and divine calling there is. To partner with God in bringing children into the world and being trusted to teach and train them into adulthood. It is sacred.
- A Mother is to be an expression of love. A safe space where people can feel and experience a glimpse of God’s love for them.
- A Mother is there to comfort and give the best hugs
- A mother is to inspire children to go for their dreams and build confidence
- A mother is to teach values, develop character, and cultivate a love of learning and the courage to keep going.
- A mother is to help us understand grace, mercy, repentance, and forgiveness.
- A mother is to care for herself and model a life of service, purpose, and healthy boundaries.
- A mother is to create and cultivate a sanctuary of faith where children can grow and develop, to see thier worth, grow into their potential, and fulfill their divine missions.
That’s what motherhood is to me!
I recognize that for many people that is not the experience they had with their mothers. Wherever you came from, and whatever your experience, I invite you to choose what motherhood means to you and the person YOU CHOOSE to be. Take steps to cultivate in yourself the qualities of the person you want to be. Give yourself grace along the way and know that God is with you and you do not have to do it alone.
